Introduction to Jesus’ Teachings
This course will introduce students to the teachings of Jesus as found in the Bible. In particular, it will focus on those aspects of the teachings of Jesus that are most relevant to our lives today. Topics include: Who was Jesus? What did he say? Why do we believe what he said? How is his teaching relevant to our lives today? By the end of this course, students should answer these questions for themselves. This course will introduce students to the teachings of Buddha as found in the Dhammapada.
What are the essential teachings of Jesus?
The essential teachings of Jesus are love, forgiveness, and compassion. Jesus taught that we should love one another as we love ourselves and forgive others as we would like to be ignored. He also urged us to have compassion for others and help those in need.
These are the essential values taught to young people in our school system, and it is great to see them being taught so well at a professional football level. More importantly, though, they are values that I think will serve to help us all lead better lives over the coming years. The skills we learn from football are transferable to every area of life and can help us improve our relationships with family, friends, and colleagues.

One way to study Jesus’ teachings is to look at what He said and compare it to what was going on in society at the time. In many instances, He said we’re not so different from what people were saying. For example, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus talks about how to treat others — especially those who are suffering. Many of His teachings would be considered common sense today. For example, He says we should love our enemies and do good to those who persecute us. It seems like common sense, but consider this: Many people didn’t practice it at the time.

The teachings of Jesus Christ provide a guide for living a good and fulfilling life. We can apply his teachings by following the example he set and looking to the Bible for guidance. The next time you find yourself in a conflict with someone, seek to understand the other person’s perspective. Be willing to look at things from their point of view, even if you disagree with them. Try to resolve the issue at hand rather than attacking or defending yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
